The GLA’s Social Integration team is seeking to recruit a talented policy and projects officer to a permanent position focused on strengthening civic and democratic participation in London.
Supporting Londoners to be active citizens is one of the three pillars of the Mayor of London’s strategy for social integration. We want people to feel they have a voice and the power to influence decisions that affect them, their family, community, and local area.
Our research tells us that people are more likely to feel happy and like they belong in a city which they have helped to shape.
Recent events, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Britain’s exit from the EU, and the rise in prominence of the Black Lives Matter movement have highlighted structural barriers in democratic processes, lack of trust and willingness to engage with democracy, as well as democratic inequality and the importance of media and political literacy.
This role is integral to London’s social recovery and addressing the inequalities that have been highlighted and exacerbated over the past 18 months.
The successful candidate will have an in depth understanding of the drivers of civic and democratic participation and the key organisations which work in this space. They will need to use this knowledge to build strong partnerships to forward the Mayor’s vision for London.
This role will be based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL). GLA staff have moved to a hybrid working model with work split across both home and office working.
London's diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London's diversity at all levels.
We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.
We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share. In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.
